Network Location Awareness service not starting

One moment, it works. The next moment, it fails....and keeps on failing.

My fiance's laptop is having the problem. ASUS X401U Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

Error: Windows could not start the Network Location Awareness on the Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -1073741288.

I read a post that had the same error and I tried the following methods to no avail.... I've already conducted a scan using Malwarebytes (it got around 49 viruses which were mostly in the registry) and ran a register cleaner with CCleaner and Glary Utilities but the service still won't start. Method 1 won't work. I tried Method 2 and Method 3 and they finally got my wifi adapter to detect networks (it had not detected any networks previously) but my adapter could not connect to my router (it was getting Limited access) and it also tweaked the operating system a bit because after I restarted the laptop, it told me my copy of Windows was not genuine. A week ago, I wasn't getting any errors and the laptop was brand new (purchased last September). Any advice?

You can try the following steps and see if it helps.
Method 1: Let’s uninstall the Network Adapter from device manager and reinstall it.
a. Click Start and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and press Enter.
b. Expand Network Adapters and Right click on the adapter select Uninstall.
c. Restart the computer. Windows should install the drivers required.
You can refer to the dapter manufacturer website and install the latest available drivers.

Method 2: Try resetting TCP\IP and check if the issue persists.
You can refer to the following article to reser TCP\IP
How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility

Method 3: Reset Winsock
a. Click Start and type cmd in the start search box.
b. From the programs list right click on cmd and select Run as Administrator.
c. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt, and then press the Enter key.
d. Do the same process for refreshing the TCP/IP just replace the typed command with
netsh interface ipv4 reset press Enter
netsh interface ipv6 reset press Enter
ipconfig /flushdns press Enter
e. Restart your Computer.
