Is it possible to deploy packages over the network with Windows 7?

Hi all. I write a lot of programs on the side for myself and friends. I would like to be able to use the network deployment as shown here: Deploying a MSI through GPO

However, it seems in Windows 7 doesn't allow me to create new group policy objects. Is this even possible in Windows 7 Professional?

You need active directory (ie: Server 2003/2008, etc) in order to create a group policy object. What server do you have that's running AD?

    I don't. It's just my personal computer.

You can't push MSIs without active directory. You need some sort of server to control everything.

If I do get active directory, can I make MSI's available to users that are not part of my AD, but are just connected to the same LAN?

No. Instead of messing with this, just create a workgroup and use RDP to remote into those computers and then install the MSI that way.
