More info on windows 7 wireless internet problem.

Several people have ponted out that under windows 7 they cannot access the internet wirelessly. I have the same problem. But I have some additional information.
1 - My wireless connection itself works fine. I can access all of the computers
    in my hourse wirelessly.
2 - I can ping yahoo by its ip address. So my internet connectivity is fine.
    3 - But I can't ping yahoo by name.
The problem is that I can't wireless contact the DNS server.
4 - I have tried this on two completely different wireless networks with the
    same results.
5 - I have 3 co-workers who also bought the identical computer and OS that
I have. Of the four of us, 2 have the problem and 2 do not.
6 - In the first few days after starting to use windows 7, my wireless connection
worked fine on the internet. Then it suddenly stopped working.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Windows 7 wireless problem solved

This is how I solved the problem regarding wireless problem with Windows 7. It should also work for you.
    1. I uninstalled the wireless driver on ma notebook pc (to do this, press windows+Pause keys on ur keyboard to show u ur system properties; you can alternatively do it by right-clicking on the Computer icon on ur desktop. Next select Device manager on the task panel. Once there click on the little arrow on Network adapters to xpand and right-click on ur wireless Network connction (eg. mine shows Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection) and select uninstall

    2. go to www.intel.com to download thier generic wireless driver for windows 7. Install this driver and restart the pc; it should now work fine (as it did on mine).

if confused about anything reach me at oje_g@hotmail.com

I've had the some problem. Can ping public IPs, can even resolve host names. This lead me to believe it was a winsock error. Try this:

open DOS as administrator, and type this command:
    netsh winsock reset

    reboot your computer.
This solved my problem, however, win7 still seems to be removing my wireless adaptor. ifIi find a fix for that, I'll post it.

Open the config page for your router, to the WAN tab. Set the preferred or main dns to the one on OpenDNS's page: 208.67.222.222

It will be faster than your ISPs anyhow.

I suspect you may also have the Bonjour service installed. Google for how to completely remove that from the system the proper way, if so. If you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager, you have it.

    Wireless issues

I´m currently using a rather old laptop from dell but it is still going strong and does the work i need it to do. Upgrading from vista to 7 was the best thing ever. However lately some rather odd things has happened to my wireless connections. First at work the computer had problems with connecting to the wireless network. Changing the wep to wap and turning of the security didn't help. finally a firmware upgrade and a total reset of the router allowed me to access the wireless for a short while. After about a week the problem was back. Now after about 6 months with working wireless connection at home my laptop has the same problems here as well. And the same thing at another old location where it has always worked. The connection is established to the router but connectivity is limited and the connection doesn't have a valid ip-configuration. I´ve deleted and added the connection. Changed the name of the network. Changed channels etc but problem remains.

What is the most odd is that if i go to for example star bucks or any other connection for the first time it works great.

Has anybody experienced the same issue? As it is now Im using a hspda modem in order to connect to the Internet from places where i should be able to use the wireless connections. The routers are well compatible with windows 7 since our other computers are all running on windows 7 and they are having no troubles at all with connectivity.

    Grateful for helpful answers

    /Kristoffer

Ok i have done all of the above, but after 5 minutes problem persist! I am connected on a wlan network, its open, signal is maxed out, i have Edimax 150Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n USB Adapter, model EW-7711USn.
I have done every step from above and still no luck!

Before 2 days i installed dual XP enterprise x64 and its working like a charm, that wlan connection is working perfectly! When i try to connect it on win 7 i need to wait 5 mins for connection and than 5 mins that it let me on internet and again i get 5 mins of opening every page on mozilla or on iExplorer or any other browser.

I was looking on some other forums and i see lots of people have the same issue with wireless and windows 7... i dont know if win7 x86 have the same issues but i dont wanna buy pirated software and i have latest updates from microsoft... on other forums i was reading that Computer Browser on services is making problems with wireless but its never on, that process is never running even its on automatic... any help would be great or i need to dump win 7 and go on XP?! Win 7 is beautiful OS, and its so easy, my PC run so smooth with it and i can play any king of game on it with max-out gfx... it would be a shame that i need to delete it just becuase i cant use wlan on it
