Windows 7: Wireless Problems

ok, Nos, and the rest of us here... i have found that if you do NOT have a 7 driver, atleast in cases, installing in vista comp mode will have different outcomes it seems so far with my experimentation with this belkin G adapter. In 7000 i used regular vista to install, no problem. Horrible results when doing the same in 7100. I have since deleted/uninstalled and reinstalled using vista SP2, which that option wasnt available in 7000 btw. Although in the past 18 hours, i have had just one DC while testing all this and stressing the network, the jury is still out, but atleast there is a change or maybe progress if you want to call it that. Who knows, it could be a fluke, or just my adapter and situation.

Excuse me, my problem seems to be unique from what I've read (couldn't read the whole thread though).

I just installed Win 7 on my laptop, a Dell Vostro 1500, and it works absolutely great. Tonight I installed Win 7 on the wife's laptop, a Toshiba Satellite, and the wlan card goes absolutely crazy. It connects to our linksys router (with tomato firmware), and uses a static IP, which i've assigned via Alternate Config, like normal. It connects and everything, but then 1 of 2 things happen. It either:
Works fine for homepage, but then it'll stop working. Windows still reports everything being fine and connected, but I get no service.
Or
It keeps reconnecting until I disable the wlan card.

Obviously I've tried getting the newest drivers, but Windows reports that it's already up to date. I'm going nuts here trying to get it to work, especially when I have the exact same settings on my laptop, same win7 build (7600) and everything.

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5871
Dual Pentium 1.86 ghz
2 gigs ram
integrated graphics
Atheros AR5007EG wlan

Any help is immensely appreciated.

Hi

First idea un-intsall the wifi driver (if you have another way of getting to the internet)and let update find a driver for you. IM sure you have done the usual like disabling IP-6 support, etc.

Second- could it possibly be a browser prob rather than a connectivity one. does e-mail work? try different browser.

Im subscribed to this thread so anytime anyting gets posted here I get email and can pop back in

hope this points ya in the right direction

1. I don't know what you're talking about when you say disable IP-6.
2. What on earth... now whenever I try to connect, it just says unidentified network. I tried going via direct LAN connection, but it gives the same response.

IP-6 support is a known problem. If disabling caused you a problem just go back and re-enable it. We are kind of in the dark here considering you didnt fill in your computer specs and we know nothing abt your wifi setup. How abt we go back to square one and get all your specs

Um... didn't I give you my specs? Anyway, the wired ended up working, but same problem with the wlan, but it ends up saying unidentified network.

As for my wifi, it's a WRT54GL, with Tomato firmware, using Static DHCP. What else do you want to know?

I'm going to bed now, I'll catch up on here when I get up.

EDIT:
Ok, got her internet working by the following commands
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog
However, I tried to connect via LAN on my comp, and it ended up being screwed up too! I decided to use the same commands and it was fixed, but now neither of our comps go online via Alternate Config, we have to directly enter the IP address. This is fine, but whenever I take my laptop somewhere like school, it'll be a real pain in the ass to disable the static IP, then enter it over again... ugh. Well, thank you very much.

Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi!

Try to set up a access point from my computer with my ZyDAS ZD1211 802.11 b+g wifi USB (Atheros Communications Inc.) to work with my Laptop.

The driver (dated -07!) installs fine, but I cant start the ZDWlan Utility application in windows 7, which worked just fine on my previous install if windows xp 64-bit.

The device shows up as USB2.0 WLAN in control panel > Harware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

But when I got to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and click the "Set up a new connection or network" and option 2 to "configure a new access point" the device will not show up in the list... (I have waited more than 90sec...)

The device seems to work fine the other way as I get a list of other wireless access points when I click "Connect to a network"

How can I fix this?

Thanks in advanced!

wireless connection solved

Hey, I'm new here. Just got a Latutude Z with windows 7 pro and had the exact same issue, but .... I fixed it (yay)
When you connect, does it say connected and show a park bench.
if so, that's what my issue was. It thinks you are trying to connect to a public network.
go to control panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center
Click on Set up a new connection or Network
Go through and create a home network, with a picture of a house
Mine works now

There may be a cleaner faster way to do this, like I said I'm new to Windoze 7, but at least I'm on wireless now

I am also having the same problem. I bought a new notebook with windows 7 (Toshiba Satellite) and cannot connect with my wireless connection (although a wired connection works). I have several other computers (running XP and Vista) with wireless connection to my router, running fine. This is driving me crazy. Most of the time I cannot even see my network name in the list of available networks (although I can see the networks of my neighbohrs). When by chance I see it, I try to connect and the get a message saying that it was not possiblem. Then the network name disappears and just after many attemps of trying to see it, I am able to do it (basically on a random pattern). My router is a Netgear and my wireless adapter is Realtek. HELP!
