Frequent network disconnections - Event ID 7042

    Hi..

For some time now I've been having some issues with my network disconnecting at seemingly random times and it is proving incredibly frustrating.

At the time of the disconnections, the following entry is logged in the Event Log -> System log:
    Code:
The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control.

The reason specified was: 0x40030011 [Operating System: Network Connectivity (Planned)]
I've Googled this issue to death and seen possible resolutions from disabling power saving mode on the card, disabling services to updating drivers. I've tried all these suggestions and the problem persists. This seems to be an issue affecting quite a few Windows 7 users and it's a little frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a sure way to resolve it.

We've recently switched to fibre broadband so I've had to purchase a BT Dual Band WiFi dongle to make the most of the extra speeds and the problem still persists with my previous NICs disabled. Due to the change in broadband service, we have had to change router from a Netgear DGN2200 to the BT HomeHub 5 so it looks like we can rule out wifi cards and routers as possible causes.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP1. All updates installed. There doesn't seem to be any related network or other issues occurring. Speed is good and generally quite stable. File sharing works well on all devices. No BSODs, no crashes or other noticeable issues.

I'm absolutely stumped on what is causing the issue and would appreciate some advice or other possible resolutions/workarounds please.

Fairly close to formatting and installing Windows 8.1 but I would like to keep one computer in the house as Windows 7 for the time being as I'm otherwise very happy with it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Nick :)

Thanks for the reply Yard Dog.

Disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP seems to have resolved the issue (so far).

It has been about 4 days since the last entry in the event log and I used to see quite a few every day.

    Unbelievable.

No errors for days and within an hour or so of posting, I get an error and lose connection.

Disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP wasn't mentioned in the link you posted, I read it elsewhere as a possible solution.

Looks like I'm gonna have to format and install 8.1.
