    LinksysWMP54G Issues

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) a few days ago (upgrade from Windows XP 32-bit), and thus far I can confidently say it's been a pleasant experience. I haven't run into application compatibility issues yet (which is good), but I have been running into problems with my old wireless ethernet card.

I noticed that I would get ridiculous ping spikes in Ventrilo and my games, and that sometimes my browsers would simply stop performing their functions (webpages would freeze up frequently). Looked into it and discovered that my particular wireless card model's drivers don't function properly in 64-bit, and thus I had been experiencing ridiculous packet loss and connection timeouts.

I heard there was a fix for it by installing other drivers, but I don't know exactly which to install for the WMP54G model. I've concluded I'm just going to buy a new card tomorrow, hopefully one that will work on Windows 7.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate any advice on newer cards that will work with this OS. My internet connection is DSL, I'm trying to connect to a modem in my basement.

For the WMP54G, depends on your version...I have v1.4 and it uses Ralinktech 2500 chipset and v1.41 uses Ralinktech 256x chipset....goto http://www.ralinktech.com/ to download their drivers....I heard 1.3 uses Broadcom chipset but I can't confirm.....google what chipset your version uses and you should be able to find drivers for them.

I also have a cheap Zyxel G302-v3 which I got for $5, Windows 7 has no problem assigning a Realtek driver for it and it works. As for a new card, if you are in the US, go check out Newegg, find the cheapest and check if it has Vista 64 driver, if it does it will work.
