    file server hangs

I have the exact same situation except uninstalling AVG didn't resolve it. I only have a couple of other utilities installed like uTorrent, chrome, etc, none that I think would have kernel level code.

The fileserver is Win 7 ultimate 64 bit, as soon as another computer accesses a file on shared drive the fileserver hangs - mouse/keyboard doesn't work - have to hard reset. Fileserver has no problems accessing the files itself.

I booted into safe mode + net but shared drives are disabled - I also tried \\fileserver\c$ and that didn't work.

This is the only thread I can find from google that has the same situation. Thanks for any help!

    Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'd suggest looking on the task manager's processes tab from the File Server to find out what processes are hogging and causing the issue.

Also, check the paging file size from the File Server if it has the minimum requirement.

Oh, my post finally got approved.

I resolved this problem when Windows Update installed a couple of important updates as well as an optional network driver for atheros 1 network adapter.
