Do you know if the NIC ever worked? I have had several motherboards with built-in NICs where the NIC simply died after a few months and I had to install a PCI card and disable the on-board.

How fast is your internet connection? When you say your wifi is slow, is it as fast as your internet connection? Ethernet is generally only an advantage when transferring files between 2 computers on your network unless you have a very fast internet connection. Do you have an internet connection faster than 150Mbps (megabits per second)? Even if you look at "real world" wifi speeds, your "N" wifi adapter should be able to handle 40-50mbps.

Try updating the driver if it's not version 19.1 (April 10, 2014)

    Read the release notes first:
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18713/eng/readme.txt

then download and install the 64 bit version
