How do I create a home network with my laptop as the main file server?

    Hi,

I tried to explore today the possibilities of creating a "stand alone" home network that does not require an internet.

This is what I intend to do:

    1. create a home network where my laptop serves as the access point emitting an SSIS ie. "share-it".
    2. When a another laptop tun on his wifi they can be able to connect from the "share-it" SSID.
    3. Once connected they could browse my movie folder and they can stream from it.
    4. Once they are connected they can go to my share folder and download some of the files they need.

I really don't know if this could happen.

I was not able to create a home network today because it requires a connectivity which I don't have. I have no router to turn on as "the connectivity".

Let me know form you guys. Thanks!

Look into software such as Connectify or VirtualRouter that will allow you to use your laptop as a router and create a "hotspot" that other computers can connect to via wifi. This software is designed to allow you to share an internet connection so I'm not 100% sure it will activate if there is no internet connection.

Once you have setup the hotspot, then you can share the folders on your laptop that you wish to let the others access and they will then be able to browse those folders and stream movies and such.
