Cant connect wirelessly

I have a laptop with an Intel Wifi link 5100 AGN Network adapter. As soon as i turn it on through a special key combination, it lists all the networks available. So i try to connect to my secured network, but i get an error saying that it wasnt able to connect. Trying different wireless networks results in the same problem.

I tried resetting the router, but nothing new unfortunately. The thing is i just formatted my laptop and installed windows 7. Previously it had vista, and everything was fine. So again i dont think it's the wireless adapter causing the problem here.

I also updated the drivers for the wireless adapter through intel's site, but that still made no difference.

can you check the device in device manager (type device manager in search) go to the network>wifi device. does it have a yellow triangle on it, or is it missing?

Are there any devices with yellow triangles?

No yellow triangles in device manager. All drivers have been installed.

I am also having the same problem. My Win XP netbook has no problem connecting to the network, but my Windows 7 laptop won't. I select the network I want to connect to, enter the Key, and click connect. It will come up and say it cannot connect to the network. I click troubleshoot, and it says that it cannot find a problem. I've even tried turning off the security and still no dice.

I have a Dell studio 1737 laptop.

In Network and Sharing center/Change adapter settings if your wireless adapter is listed and it is enabled, try disabling then enabling it. Under properties you can uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6(TCP/IPv6). Under Change advanced sharing settings make sure your settings are correct. If all is ok, open a cmd window, type ipconfig and make sure you have an IP address assigned. If not, type ipconfig /renew (note the space between ipconfig and /renew). If you still don't get an IP address then I would look to your router and/or cable modem. Unplug both then plug in your cable modem first and let it boot until all lights are steady then plug in your router.

If you are using an Internet Security Suite check your firewall settings.

Roban is correct . My only addition is run ipconfig /flushdns, then ipconfig /renew.

Right Ken...good point.

There is another thing to check especially for laptop computers. Open your Wireless Network Connection properties and click on configure button for your device then on the Power Management tab and remove the check from 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.

I tried everything but no hope yet. I unchecked IPv6, restarted and also reset my router. I dont have any firewall yet because this is a fresh install. I still can't even connect to my network or any other. So when i try any ipconfig commands it gives me a Media is Disconnected error.

The problem still remains and i have absolutely no idea what's going on.

I have the same problem too but on the Dell Studio 1555

Just out of interest IBUA, what kind of wireless card do you have? is it an Intel one?

Also sorry for the bump, but has anyone found a resolution yet? If i cant find a solution to this i will have to revert back to vista and i really dont want to do this because im liking windows 7
