Win7 & Win8 64bit

You did great kirkm.

Might be worth it to enable DHCP (Auto IP) on both computers Local Area connection settings, you may always switch it back to Manual or Static IP later on if it didn't help. Make sure that you select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and not the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) from this Tutorial.
How to Change Your IP Settings in Windows 7 / Configure DHCP
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Should be Yes
Test your connections after.

Xp/Win7 pending

2xg, I'll really reluctant to do that because there are 5 computers here and everything works except a new folder share with Win7. If I break something the whole shebang might fall apart and I'd never get it all working again.
I did look at win7 Local Area Connection properties and v4 is in a Fixed IP and v5 on Auto.

For I test I setup a new share on another XP machine. I just went into the drive in Explorer, RClick properties, clicked Sharing . Ticked share this folder, and Allow network users to change... then Exited.

That folder is now assessable on every other machine Even the Win7 one.

These are the same steps I used in Win7 but does not work the same. The folder can be seen and accessed in Win 7 Explorer-Network, but not any other computer. They see it, but cannot access it.

As I keep saying I have other folders in win7 that can be accessed - all within this same dhcp/IP/or whatever else involved setting. So shares do work within my current environment - why can I not add another is the question. There must be an answer - just need to find it!

I understand you want me to change certain things to help diagnosis and I will do as a last resort.

One more question, If I right click a folder/drive where sharing works, then click the sharing tab there's a button called Share which pulsates to blue. On the one that doesn't work, that button is greyed out and instead one called Advanced Sharing pulsates blue.
Another thing I just noticed is - the drive I want to share has one folder. In the Explorer tree LH side that folder shows a padlock on it. It's the only one like that. Any sort of clue ?
