Media Streaming will not turn on

Hi I am new to this forum and been having this problem for a while now. I am wanting to stream from my PC to my PS3 I have tried hundreds of times to turn on media streaming in network and sharing center but every time I press the turn on media streaming button the little circle will pop up as if it is going to turn on the button grey's out for a second or two and doesn't change it will not turn on no matter what I try.

I searched around a bit and seen a potential fix by going into computer management and trying to start the windows media player streaming service but whenever I try to start the service I get this message.

"The Windows Media Network Sharing Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs"

I would appreciate any help with this issue. I have tried everything to get this to work and nothing has changed. It worked like a charm before I formatted my desktop a few months back and did a clean install of windows and now all of a sudden it won't work at all.

    Hi Beefy, welcome back,

First of all the windows media player network sharing service (wmpnetworksvc) has HTTP(HTTP) dependencies, so first of all, you would need to start up services.msc and see if that is running, if not then get that going, secondly, the service will only start if you've configured windows media player (first time run), if this has been done then we can try and get it to work by other means.

I have included a Batch file to force the service to start, just save the file and right click and run as administrator, reboot and it should be running.

Thanks MrNeeds I will try that see if it works.

Edit: After trying that batch file it still didn't solve the problem in services.msc it changed from Automatic Delayed to Manual but still I get the same problem.

The Windows Media Network Sharing Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.

Edit: After looking through the services.msc I noticed these were disabled
[*]DNS Client service[*]SSDP Discovery service[*]UPnP Device Host service started[*]Function Discovery Resource Publication service

So I changed them all to automatic and started them along with the wmpnetworksvc and it solved the problem.

    Thanks for the help MrNeeds.

No worries, at least you have streaming capabilities now, we're here if you need any more assistance.
