can you explain how to ping the port please ? as me or him are not that techi

see if anyone here can access my pc i have set up a folder and a user so you can try

    the site is ftp://127.0.0.1
    username sevenforums
password sevenforums and the should be a image ther witch is my desktop wallpaper
127.0.0.1 is what's known as the loopback address, it is not the actual IP of your PC.
To find your PC's actual IP address Click START ---> RUN ---> type CMD and hit ENTER ---> now type IPCONFIG and hit ENTER. There is your actual IP address of your PC.

To test ftp connectivity from within your network, ping that IP you discovered above, but add :21 to the end of the IP. Like this:

    PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:21

That will only work if you do not use a router. You gotta be directly connected to internet for that.

I already posted in the thread about a sure fire way to get public ip address.

Best is to Google "localhost" and gain an understanding of what that means. Then learn about ftp after.

There are testing sites online that if you enter in the info into them, it will connect to your ftp (if everything setup correctly) and tell you it was cool or not.

Google again is best bet. If you have troubles finding something like this, let me know. Or other questions too.

Send me a private message with your public ip address, port number that the ftp server is on (it's 21 if you didn't change it) and login credentials and I'll test it for you.

You could send me your host name with dyndns instead of ip address.

Once it works, you have to remember to set permissions for the directories under the accounts. Some you may want full access and some read only etc...

I've been using Core FTP for the last several years. Never have had a single problem with it. Easy to configure, and blazing speed.
