Is there an advantage to "Homegroup" ?

hi guys I realize this is an old and sore subject but one more time, due to my networking ignorance, I'm wondering: what are the advantages of having LAN members join one or other Homegroup, versus the functionality of a properly setup workgroup?

For me, it seems like Microsoft included the feature to make home network setup and sharing easier for the average user. You can accomplish the same exact thing through sharing drives and printers manually, but Homegroup just makes it easier!
