How to reset Credentials and Login as diff User/PW

I am logging on to home network PC from 2nd home network PC. Both are Win 7. Apparently, a long time ago, I logged onto \\LAPTOP from this PC as Guest and saved credentials.

How can I force the login box to re-appear so I can login to \\LAPTOP with different account and PW?

go to "manage network passwords" using the start menu search field.

btw, if you are using the same username and password on each computer it can automatically login regardless.

I went to "manage network passwords" took me to "Credential Manager". There were no Windows Credentials, only some Generic for Windows Live.

To your second point, it is a guest account I'm reaching the LAPTOP as. I've verified this at the LAPTOP under manage computer/sessions. I tried to assign a password to the Guest acct to hopefully break the auto login that's happening but you can't do that. Still stuck.

I found this in someone elses post. If I could only get this I'd be home free. I get nothing. Just autoconnects (or is already connected when I pick the PC from the Network choice in the Navigation Pane).

When I log into this machine from LAPTOP I get essentially the top part of this box but just open fields for Username and Password. Of course, I haven't saved credentials there either.

Then it's likely that the computer is forcing Guest access to the share. You can solve that by going into the Local Security Policy > local policies > security options and changing "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts" to "Classic" instead of "Guest only".

Also, make sure password protected sharing is enabled in network and sharing center.

All of this needs should be done on both computers, for simplicity's sake.

I still think this should be doable because I can log from \\FAM-LAPTOP into \\YELLOW-TOWER\John no problem. I've been careful to NOT save credentials when doing this. And, I can do it over and over and from different user accts on \\FAM-LAPTOP.

If credentials were saved, they would've shown up in "manage network passwords" and you could delete them.

I just created a second user acct \\YELOW-TOWER\Nicole and ran it through some tests.

It can be accesses from \\FAM-LAPTOP same as my admin acct. with all the appropriate user rights. When trying to access \\FAM-LAPTOP from \\YELLOW-TOWER\Nicole I got the same result as when trying to access it from my original accout. That is that the machine went straight into guest.

This makes me think the problem has nothing to do with having saved credentials or not. Sounds like its a problem over on the laptop. (???)

The laptop was an upgrade-in-place from Vista 64 whereas the tower was a fresh Win 7 instal (including drive format). Sure starting to seem like something is "stuck" over at the laptop that's forcing access to come in as guest.

Any ideas?

try disabling the Guest account for all computers.

right-click on a folder and go to properties > sharing. What does it say at the bottom about password protection?

Guest is off at both machines.

Do you mean of a folder when I'm connected as Guest? confused

on the computer you're having trouble accessing

any folder. it doesn't even have to be shared
