    Full printer sharing

Hello im not sure if this is the right place to post this but it dose contain a networking portion to it that may be important.

Basically I'm trying to share a hp psc 1215 printer on my windows xp machine with my windows 7 machine.

The printer uses usb and is plugged in to the xp machine which is connected to a router my 7 machine connects to it witlessly and so far the 7 machine can use it and send print jobs to it. But the problem i encounter is i cant access the printer preferences and so can not change paper size or any other features from my 7 machine. Every time i go to open them from the device and printer panel the window appears and then goes again. Can anyone help me find a solution.

    Hi and welcome

Sometimes a priter has to be ainstalled locally to install all the driver before it can be successfully shared. So if you install it to the win 7 machine and then put it back on the xp machine it might work

Goord luck and let us know if it doesnt fix it

Thanks for the quick reply as of the moment hp have not released there own windows 7 drivers and the xp ones that i have tried have made any difference. I think Im going to have to wait this one out and in the mean time use xps printer which dose allow me to change my seatings and then have xps viewer send it to the hp printer.

But thank you again for the quick reply.

Yes, sorry, I should have clicked one more time myself. But have you tried connecting it locally....as Ken said in his post above, sometimes you have to install the printer locally inorder to get it working and then you can move it back to the xp machine. It also says something about using Microsoft Update for drivers so...I'm just thinking A printer is better than NO printer
