No help with trouble shooter in network or homegroup

I have 2 computers on a wired lan both running win 7 pro and i cannot get one of them to connect to the homegroup. I try the troubleshooter and it says everything is okay. i go to microsoft Fixit and that program cannot run. What the heck is going on?

I can offer more commiseration than solution. One of my computers has always refused to join any homegroup. Several others all connect without issue but my desktop has uniformly refused to join or have others join.
Check all your network parameters, IP addresses, router settings and verify that each computer can ping the other. OR, just share folders the old-fashioned way through explorer (what I do). Homegroup is a bit overrated anyway.

Pretty sure there is a tutorial on Homegroup setup.
