    Windows 7 Network

I have a home network with 4 computers; 3 wireless, 1 Ethernet. When they were all XP, things were working fine. Now 2 of the wireless systems have been upgraded to Windows 7 with the "family Pack" retail upgrade.

I believe I have made all the proper permissions and security policies, but this is not working. The Win7 system can access the XP system folders. but the XP systems can see the Win7 system but get an access violation error.

I've tried some of the suggestions in other thread, no joy. I turned off the McAfee firewall, but that doesn't help.

XP doesn't know anything about "Homegroups" I have a work group name and its set on all systems,

    What am I missing?

    Regards,

    Welcome to Seven Forums, HankS.

Homegroups use IPv6, which Xp doesn't know about.

You need to ensure that the Windows 7 systems are set correctly for sharing, and that all the systems are in a "workgroup", not a "Homegroup".

For the sharing in Windows 7, click "properties" > share, set it available for "everyone" (it should default to read only) then go to "advanced sharing", click on share there also.

Turning off password protected sharing on the Win 7 machines usually fixes that error message.

Thank you all for the welcome and the help.

I thought the password had something to do with it and missed the place to turn it off.

    It all works now

I fixed the problem that I started this thread with and though I got folders to share on the network with the Win7 system, I obviously haven't grasped it all just yet.

I got brave and tried to make the "Microsoft Games" folder sharable on the network. Surprise, I can't get it to share. It's seen, but no access.

I have all systems in the same workgroup, I've turned off password access, just like the others, still no access.

There was one difference when I went to set the sharing. When you select properties/sharing on the folder I noticed the only option available on the tab was "advanced sharing." The top share button was grayed out. Why? On the other shared folders, I could use the "share" button. I went to the advanced sharing and went though the permissions rigmarole assigning "Everyone" to no avail.
