If they don't have Internet in their home, creating a hotspot won't help.
That means no internet via a landline to be more exact. In those cases you need a cell phone as hotspot. But for that you need a data plan. That can be very expensive if you upload and download a lot of stuff.

Would like to hear yr recommendations as to how I could best set up a wi fi hotspot with this laptop running on Win 7 Pro.
Haven't had a smart phone or other appliances so it's something new to me, have a friend visiting with a phone which needs wi fi access.
