TL-WR841N Optimization? Need some expertise

hi network gurus
I'm a novice at optimizing throughput. I really like the TP Link TL-WR841N router as do a lotta others.
I have three routers in a WIFI bridge arrangement, with the TPLink the mothership. I'm using their stock firmware, latest version. It works well - I'm getting from it every speck of my paid througput from TWC Roadrunner - same speed WIFI as via cable.
On the subtending routers repeating the primary AP its a mixed bag. One is running DD-WRT and the other a Ralink running their firmware.

I have seen comments here and there about optimizing WIFI throughput with things like:
- Turning off QoS [though some say the opposite]
- Using 20 only or 20/40MHz ? and
- 2.4Ghz only or 5?
- chunk TKIP. Use AES only? [WPA2/personal]
- avoid usb 3.0 connections. some are emphatic about this but its not much of an issue for me either way
- enable WMM ?

Also I do have a media server [simple: XP Pro on a good pc, hardwired to the primary TL-WR841N] and I do stream movies and music off it.

What say ye?

thx for that. MY inquiry isn't really "problem" solving so I'll get out of the way.
Just looking for tips on making a good network better. I think maybe that WIFI Analysis tool from CNET is a little dated??

I think I'll get what I'm seeking on smallnetbuilder forum.

I was told (by a software engineer trying to sell me software) that my computer should be optimized every so often (3-months) to delete unnecessary files and make it run faster, and to delete any malware that may have got past the Windows Firewall and the anti-virus software. Is this true? How do...

This is an idea for John to maybe add on to. Below the custom user title, maybe you could put your area of expertise, such as 'Graphic Card Advisor' or 'Signature Designer' or 'Custom Rig Designer'. Maybe put this in the place pointed out in the blue arrow? : Thanks, Dom.
