Cannot Join domain over VPN: Network path not found

    Hello all.

After much frustration it is time to ask for help. I am trying to join my computer to a test domain controller so that i can set up directaccess.
    Here is the setup:
Windows Server 2012 with Directaccess and VPN enabled
2012 server is joined to a Windows 2008 R2 Domain controller that has DNS and DHCP installed
All firewalls have been disabled and the computer is open to all ports and connections.

Testing two client computers running Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 10 enterprise evaluation.
Both computers have been set to use the 2008R2 DNS server

I can successfully connect to the server via VPN and map network drives.

If i go to join the computer to the domain i type in the top level domain and IT PROMPTS for the network username and password. I type it in, and after about 30 seconds it says Cannot join the domain mydomain.com Network Path Not Found.

I'm not sure what i am doing wrong as it sees the server because it's prompting for the credentials, but then cannot complete the connection.

Any help is greatly appreciated, banging my head on the desk for a couple hours didn't help.

This issue was resolved by ticking the option to use the default gateway on remote network. Joined the PC to domain, then went back and unchecked the box.

Once joined the computer had no problem using the VPN at the login screen and logging in as any user in Active Directory.
