The only way to get a static IP address is from your ISP. If you really need a static IP and your ISP cannot provide one then you need a different ISP.
Why do you need a static IP address? Depending on the answer there may be other alternatives that solve your problem.
For dynamic IPs you can set up a dynamic DNS in your router to get a static name:
Make your home PCs accessible anywhere with Dynamic DNS for free - TechRepublic
My ISP says that usually a static IP is needed for setting up an Internet/Domain Server. Some Web sites even publish that IP number on one of their pages.
im just trying to setup an website through IIS in windows server 2012. I bought a domain from godaddy for a website.
Maybe this can help: dns - Using dynamic IP with Go Daddy domain for web site - Stack Overflow
tahts for a subdomain i dont want that. I just want to get the site up
Next advice was:
Go to your domain in godaddy control center. Look for "Forwarding" section and just enter your no-ip address in forwarding section
Set yourself up with a dynamic DNS provider like Free Dynamic DNS - No-IP.com - Managed DNS Services then from your godaddy dns panel setup a cname that points to your noip address.
okay, do i have to do anything then with my windows server 2012?
