I see now, that the stats were from your desktop. Just trying to get a handle on what should be a simple problem to resolve. Is it possible that the hotspot has limited the number of DHCP leases that it has available. They are finite, on a typical class C without super-netting you got 0 - 255, eliminating the network address and broadcast, that leaves 1 - 254 and we know the router has one of those. And with the leases being 24 hours, and if it's a busy area then perhaps there are no more to give out. I'm just not sure exactly what you would be getting on your end, I would think that instead of a cannot connect error you would see something like unable to obtain address from DHCP server. Not saying.....just saying

i thought i would set a static ip and give that a shot but i noticed the dns servers. they are both the same for one, and also they are the same as the default gateway. ive never seen this before. btw this is grabbed from my desktop which is connected to the hotspot thats giving my laptop problems. oh well. im still at a loss with this. im starting to thing that my laptops wifi has the problem. although it works fine on any other network i try. still open to any suggestions.

That configuration that you are seeing on your desktop is common. The hotspot router is handling DHCP as well as DNS (forwarding). I got to ask....have you ever connected this laptop in it's current configuration to any wireless environment, like at Panera Bread or Starbucks or possibly a friends house. If the answer to this question is yes, then it's probably not your drivers, however; if the answer is no then perhaps you should go up a few posts in this thread and take advantage of Torrentg's offer to help with a current driver update help
i have connected to many different hotspots in public and private. never had this problem before. as far as limits on leases, i had my sisters laptop connected with no problem earlier today, as well as my brothers earlier this week along with my desktop. so i have had up to 3 devices connected at once while my laptop is unable to connect even by itself.

Microsoft had nothing at all on that. I found this though.
Right click on the adapter in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the .inf, hit ok.
i gave that driver a shot. still no connection. although i did notice that instead of instantly giving me an "unable to connect", it seems like it actually tries for about 5 seconds. but still the problem persists. im not one to give up on a problem with my computers. ive learned just about everything i know from breaking, googling,and fixing. but this has me to the point that i think that this adapter is just not compatible with the router im trying to connect to. that sounds crazy to me but what else could it be?
im at a loss but still will welcome any suggestions
