Mostwanted Welcome to SevenForums What kind of printer? Sounds like a driver problem. Did you search the web site of the printer and download vista drivers for your seven install?

I have to install the drivers on 7? I should've tried that... erm.. I didn't try bc on XP even though it didn't provide vista drivers it says if needed it would support the shared pc in someway by providing the drivers for it. But I'll get back to you when dl the drivers for vista

    similar problem

i have an XP computer (c1) with an installed HP 7650 printer.
i have another XP computer (c2) in a different room.
bother are set to share files, and i set c2 to use c1's printer, it installed the drivers from the host computer and prints stuff no problem
installed win7 on c2 and it easily finds networked computers and can retrieve files from the folders i set to share on c1. i attempt to set c2 to use the printer on c1, it says it can not find the drivers for the printer on the network. it asks if i want to locate them myself, i download the drivers from hp's site, which is an executable and even ran it. i retry the process, get the same prompt to search for the drivers, and the driver search is only allowing '.inf' files.
i've tried manually changing the name of the network that win7 is on to 'WORKGROUP' which is the network name i set up with xp. but that did not help. i guess i could try to physically connect the printer with c2, but i'm wanting to get rid of any potential network problem

edit: nvm, think i found solution in https://www.sevenforums.com/network-i...c-win-7-a.html

    Hi Mods
Maybe you can make this a sticky -- often comes up and I posted a solution yesterday which works.
    ..............extract from previous post .....
    Hi there
I've posted on this before but to share Printers attached to XP computers with either X-64 or X-32 versions of W7 is SIMPLE. These instructions are for the Printer attached to the XP machine (but works in reverse as well).

("Stand alone" Network printers can be done slightly similarly BTW).

assume the computers are call XPMACHINE and W7MACHINE.

    1) Ensure Printer on XP machine is shared - assume it's called SHAREDPRINTER.

    2) On the Network Browsing on your W7 machine ensure you can "See" the Printer share.

Now on the W7 machine do the following (doesn't matter if it's X-86 or x-64).

    3) Control Panel==> add LOCAL (Yes LOCAL) printer. I know it's on a Network but hold your horses -- what we are actually doing is "Poodlefaking" the W7 machine into thinking it's running the printer.

    4) Create NEW port==>Local port

    5) Portname is \\XPMACHINE\SHAREDPRINTER

    6) Now W7 will load a driver and you'll be able to print on the XP machine.

    Simple

(For a "Network stand alone printer") at 4) chose TCPIP port
and at 5) enter the IP address.

If the printer is on the W7 machine and you want to print on the XP machine then do the same instructions on the XP machine --
port name in this case will be \\W7MACHINE\SHAREDPRINTER

    Cheers

    Windows 7 network printing

    Hi,
I used your suggested method for network printing and it worked. Has Microsoft been advised of this very serious problem.
Hopefully they will fix this soon.
Another problem is that System 7 is missing many printer driver definitions. XP has many many more.
When I attempted to add more drivers the System took forever and then nothing happened.

I'm also can't seem to get my girlfriends Vista 32 laptop to share my Brother MFC665CW, it shared no problem on my Vista x64 install.

When connecting from her computer it now says "Printer driver issue" in a pop-up box, so I suppose that would be on my end?

Also, is it just me or is the Win7 Networking interface a bit counter-intuitive at first?

Did you follow my instructions completely -- her computer shouldn't say ANYTHING about printer driver issue -- at step 6 the computer will install a driver on HER computer the first time. Your machine and the printer need to be switched on of course.

    Shared Printer Problem..!

I have HP LaserJet 4240/4250/4350 Series Printer, attached with Windows XP SP2 and shared and i am on windows 7. while i am sharing the printer from XP to 7, i followed the below steps:

Opened Devices and Priners==>Add a Printer==>Select Add Printer Prom Network=was searching for printer win7 and it deteched and then i click next button= here two steps: 1) says connecting to the (printername) and 2) installating driver==>
after this give me message that "Access is Dined"
firewall was disabled. in both OS and printer is shared okay..i try with another XP os. it work great with another XP OS but Win 7 the problem is as below.

and when i followed the above steps in win 7 to add printer from Network.. and when i click on Add a Printer Button in "Devices and Printers" then it give a message for second time as" windows Can't Add Printer. the local print spooler is not running. please restart spooler or machine."

everytime i restart both printer and my os machine and same message is appears.

Note: when i installed the win7 last week the problem was same. but on that day once it attached successfully and i printed some of my documents too. but after that, last day i wanted to printe my documents, i face the same problem.

Please anyone to solve my Problem.
    thank you

the below message appears when i done the above steps.

Check the services under adminstrative tools and see if the the Print Spooler Service is disabled.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
