Ok, I did the service scanner and it said everything came back fine. I tried to do the Farber recovery scan but my anti virus program deleted it because it said it was malicious so I couldn't do it.

For what it is worth: This thread has a picture of the wireless card:

    According to this link:

That wireless network adapter supports WPA. Hopefully, it also supports WPA2. If not, it might not be worth your labor. That link also lists some HP software under the heading of Titles that shipped with PC. Perhaps one of those can turn on the wireless radio.

GokAy wanted you to look for the DHCP IP range. I could not locate a helpful manual for that modem to walk you thru finding that page.

UsernameIssues: Thanks mate :) the pdf link in the one link I posted earlier is broken it seems. I found the manual but it has to be the worst around, no mention of how individual settings are set.

MCraft17, can you take a screenshot of the router administration please? Check the various pages too (LAN settings if there is), if you can spot anything like a "DHCP" take a screenshot of that also.

Ok, I went to the HP website I opened my computer and my cord looks good, it is plugged in to the adapter fine and there is no bad spots on it. I did install from their website the driver again thinking that might help but no such luck. Here is a picture of the LAN settings on the router it also had something about DHCP.

Every once and awhile now while I have been sitting here the wireless connection shows up. Meaning my SSID shows up to connect but just when I go to click on it, it goes away again!

    Well, DHCP is alright.

Can you see it if you expand notification area? The little arrow to open all icons there.

Ok now over the wireless (by the clock) instead of the red x I have a yellow looking star thing.
It showed up after I changed the settings to wpa since someone here said the adapter only
accepted wpa and not wpa2. Now it shows up but won't connect.

Signal strength says no signal when I put the mouse over the wifi name. And I tried moving the computer and still the same. So is it not getting a signal?
