    Can't connect my Pc Win XP Sp2 with my Pc win 7


    Hello, I have a enormous trouble, because i can't connect mi two computers, one of them has windows XP SP2 and the other one has windows 7, and i'm trying to connect them by the router, and i'm using ethernet wires connected to it. I already join the two computers to the same work group, i've disabled the firewall and the antivirus, and i can't even see the icon of the PCs in the net, i don't know what to do. I see that i can't ping from the xp to the win 7. Any suggestions? Please really need your help my work depend on it :S

    Can you ping other direction...determine IP address and subnet of both machines and try pinging by IP rather than name

    I already assigned IP addresses to each computer, but i can't ping to any of them :S

    Is the internet working? Can you ping your router?

    Yes the internet works on each computer and i can acces to the router too

    If you are sure you have all the firewalls turned off and still can't ping I would follow patwhatsthat's lead on this and check that you are in the same subnet.

    just out of curiousity, what kinda of router and or switch are you using on you lan. It would be rare in these forums but certain manageable switchs can of course have Vlans, which in turn would share a common port out to the router. I'm sure that is probably not your environment, but I just like to know what type of network hardware you are using

    I follow the lead about de ip assign and have no result, and about the hardware i use a Thomson router model TG585V7 type DSLWTX683ECE3

    Run ipconfig and make sure your subnet mask and default gateway are the same on both machines. The ipv4 address should be different.
