Wifi for laptop not connecting to network/internet

Hi. I'm using a Gateway NV54 laptop and the wifi isn't connecting to the home network or internet. The wifi worked before the install, but not after. I have another laptop and the wifi works fine for it.

Recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit. Installed all drivers. Current wireless driver is Intel Wireless LAN Driver (since the laptop uses Intel Pentium processor).

When I click my home network in the list of connections it asks for the security key. I put in the key and immediately it says "windows was unable to connect to this network." Tried this multiple times. I can connect with ethernet but not wireless.

Tried pressing Xfinity router wireless button to pick up the laptop but it didn't work. Tried logging into Xfinity router from the other computer and manually put the laptop's computer name and mac address into router, restarted router, still can't connect.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Thanks maxie. Good news.

There were no errors in device manager, but I downloaded all the wireless drivers from Gateway, and updated the wireless driver from within device manager and had it automatically choose the appropriate driver. It chose the Ralink driver.

I restarted the computer, clicked my home network in the list of connections, input the security key and it worked! But...

I want to give it a few days to make sure it works consistently. Will post an update then. Thanks.
