networking itself is relatively easy. You set up a wireless ad-hoc network and go from there.
ON MAIN COMPUTER CONNECTED TO INTERNET
Open network and sharing center
click "change adapter settings"
right click your LAN(not the wireless)
choose properties
click Sharing tab, Share it
*you can turn off allow other network users to control or disable shared internet connection if you like*
right click your wireless
choose properties
double click the TCP/IPv4
Set the wireless to 192.168.1.1 (or anything else you want like it)
move to Prefered DNS Server
press Start button
Run "CMD"
type IPCONFIG /ALL
press enter
find the DNS for your LAN
enter both of those into the Prefered and alternat DNS server for your wireless.
Close the consol window
click "OK" on the TCP/IPv4 window.
click OK to the Wireless network properties.
Click "Back" to get out of adapter settings
click "Manage Wireless Networks" in Network and sharing center
click Add
click Creat an ad-hoc network
click next
type a network name
choose your security
choose your security key
Don't bother to save it. Windows WILL NOT automatically serve it so you'll have to make it every time anyway.
click Next and ok to finish.
ON LAPTOP (or whatever other computer)
Open network and sharing center
Adapter settings
wireless properties
open TCP/IP v4 settings
Set your IP to 192.168.1.2 (or whatever the main computer is but with a different last number)
set your gateway to 192.168.1.1 (or whatever your main computer is)
set your DNS servers to what they were on the main(not sure if this is required but I do it)
your wireless should see the network.
click the network icon
join the network
type the security code. It should connect to it.
For sharing files, download a server program or use home groups, I prefer a 3d party server program such as NetworkActiv Webserver (
Home of NetworkActiv Web Server (NAWS) )
Install that on your main computer and connect to it from your other computer to share files. You could install it on the other computer too really.
I prefer to disable the useless windows firewall in favor of Comodo Firewall
