Logon through RDP has cmd.exe application error and then causes logoff

I have an issue which started a few weeks ago after a Windows Update which I have not been able to solve. On one of my computers running W7 Ultimate X64, if I log on from the computer for the first time, everything works fine. However, if I try to log on for the first time using RDP, the log on process starts and part way through a cmd.exe - Application Error pops up with "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to..." and then logs off and closes the session. Once I've managed to log in, RDP works fine until the next restart or the account is logged out. It appears to be happening with every account on the computer.

What I can deduce is the something is trying to launch a cmd.exe, which for some reason if the log on is triggered through RDP, fails. What I have not managed to work out is what it is. I've tried to turn on userenv logging, but can't get it to generate a log file. I can't seem to find anything useful in the event logs either.

Any tips on how to track down what is happening would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've just found the culprit. Kloudian Orbweb ME. I decided I did not want/need it (a freebie from ASRock) and uninstalled Orbweb. After the reboot, the problem went away.

Logon through RDP has cmd.exe application error and then causes logoff

Hi, I'm so glad I found your posting! I'm experiencing the exact same problem, and I'm in a state of panic, as I need this fixed. I'm a composer and use my PC as a slave to my Host computer. I have had zero problems with my build before this, but now I am unable to connect via remote desktop connection. I get prompted with the aforementioned application cmd.exe message. I also have an ASRock mother board, and I'm wondering if I can fix my computer the same way you did. Could you please elaborate on easy to follow steps of how you fixed this? I would really appreciate it. I"m a bit of a noob when it comes to fixing problems with a PC. I appreciate any and all the help you can provide. Let me know if you need any more information from me, but it seems as if we have the exact same problem. Are you able to login now without any problems? Was it terribly difficult to fix the problem? Thank you very much! I hope to hear from you soon.

    Best,
    JWills

It's a simple matter of uninstalling OrbWeb. Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall. Scroll through the list until you find OrbWeb. Highlight it and then click on uninstall. Once uninstalled, reboot your computer and it should all work. It was a Windows update that caused the problem in the first place, but I could not work out which one. It was only by chance that I found that OrbWeb was affected and interfered with the RDP login. Has been working ever since.
