I can only access shared folders on Windows 7 PC for the first hour
Hi guys,
I recently upgraded our server pc to a Windows 7 pc in order to run the newer versions of Sage from it.
The setup I have is all the data is held on the server pc and the folders are shared. All the other client PCs run Windows 10 and can access and use the data from the server no problem. I also have an old Windows XP computer which has recently been set up down in the workshop in order for them to have email and access to certain files downstairs, however, this is the one where my problems start. I also have a Konica Minolta BizHub C353 connected to the network. This acts as a printer and a scanner. The scanner function scans directly into a users shared folder, via a share, on the server PC which is then accessible on each other the Windows 10 PCs, however, there is also a problem with this too.
Both the Windows XP PC and the Konica C353 suffer from the same problem. They are both fine after restarts; I am able to access the files on the server PC from the XP machine and also I'm able to scan into the shared folder from the scanner, but only for approximately the first hour or so after a restart.
To clarify:
- After I restart the XP machine I am able to access the shared folders on the server PC for approx the first hour after restart. If I try after that I get an error.
- After I restart the server PC I am able to scan to the shared folders, but I get an error message after approx an hour.
I am assuming both problems are linked to a setting on the server PC.
A few things to let you know:
- The XP machine has just been wiped to factory settings and I have just started setting it back up
- The server PC is pretty much as at factory settings though with a few programs on it.
- I have tested the situation by turning the PCs on and leaving them, but only trying to open the shared folders, no other programs were launched. It seems to me something in the background is affecting the shares.
I would really appreciate some help in getting the connection to the shared folders to be more permanent. I'm not an expert in IT, however, I do no more than a novice! But this is causing me to pull my hair out!
Thanks for all your help in advance!
