Disconnect the router from the internet
Find the hardware reset button, normally you'll need to use a pin to press an inset button under or at the rear of the router.

Connect your computer to the router via an Ethernet cable.

Login to the router using the admin data and password provided by your ISP

Set the admin name, (if possible), the SSID, Set the SSID to hidden, (you can still log into a router wirelessly if you manually enter the SSID). Most important set the passwords for the Admin account and the wireless key to strong passwords (20+ random letters, numbers and symbols ), which you can write down.

Re-connect the router to the internet.

If you still have issues after this total reset, contact your ISP and possibly local law enforcement ( check with ISP)

    REALLY Need Help w/hacking 192.168.0.1

I have time warner arris 1670a modem and I just did a clean install when I noticed someone probably made a face copy of the real page and then I could not login to the router, after that the morons came I asked for a new modem as I was afraid they had the mac I got the new one and instead of 200Megabits I got 2 now I got a new one today and finally have some control for firs time In weeks.

What's shocking to me Is the 192.168.0.1 page Is not encrypted (is there any way to encrypt it?)

Also after the modem login then I notice java had issues told me I need to update it but not the normal window just all over the place I knew it was a hacker and I just did a clean install of win 7x64 so I did a system restore im afraid I don't have one far enough.

Has anyone had similar issues and does anyone have advice as to what I can do to improve security to make sure that will not happened again?

    Thanks a lot,

(if anyone have same crap from time warner and knows more id really be grateful for input, NEVER get time warner I have it going on 3 yrs and have had like 10 calls requiring 2 line changes and at least 5 morons who ask if I know how to turn power on and if I do they have nothing to add FIOS was 1000 better I guess the only positive is that FIOS is at 500 d/l and they are no in the process of going from 300 top speed to 500 to match fios)

Your computer is on a private network. The Internet on the other side of your modem is a public network. Your modem handles the network address translation (NAT) between the two networks.

The IP address that you use to get to your modem is a private IP address. Computers from the Internet side of your modem cannot use that private IP address to get to the interface of your modem. Your modem probably does have a way to be controlled from the Internet. That is how Internet Service Providers (ISP) help their customers. There are some modems/routers that have security flaws which let others gain access from the Internet side. Your ISP should be able to tell you if your modem is flawed in that manner.

You should not need Adobe's Flash or Oracle's Java installed just to get to the interface of the modem. Your descriptions of what you think is happening and of what you are seeing are not very coherent. Please consider posting screenshots that show any issues that you might still be having. Use these steps.
