    No internet with custom IP

Hello, instead of necroing an old thread I decided to make my own, copied what I said there:

Once I put a custom IP adress, I never got any message about programs not able to first connect. Everything was fine for a while, however suddenly I can't put a custom IP adress anymore as then I get DNS failure and things just can't at all connect. If I put automatic it works, so I used the automatic settings DNS and still the same problem. Even when I put exact same IP adress, subnet mask, gateway and DNS it still didn't work.

Can you provide screenshots of the IP addresses you're changing and what you're trying to change them to?

In case you're not already aware: The DNS (Domain Name Service) is essentially what is mapping the URL you type into the address bar to an IP address. Like a translator. The IP addresses you put in for the DNS must be representing a real DNS server IP which can perform this translation. Leaving the DNS on automatic should pick up the DNS IP your Internet Service Provider uses. If you manually enter them, ensure they exist. For example, Google offer a free DNS service so you could enter some IP addresses they provide: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/?hl=en

A word about this: Even when I put same as the automatic ones, both with DNS and IP adress, same subnet, same gateway it still doesn't work. When I put in only custom DNS, everything works fine.

So, when you manually set them to the values in the bottom image, it works?

Why are you changing the DNS server numbers ?

Where did you get 8.8.4.4 from ?

The only number you should change is the IP4 address.

Why aren`t you using a Dynamic IP address ?

I once had an issue where I couldn't connect to some websites or servers with automatic. So I used Googles DNS and that fixed the issue.
