svchost.exe uploading / downloading alot (slowing down network)

    Hi there

I hope this is 'network related', since it's really slowing down my network speed. It is infact making me lag during online games quite a lot.

So... I noticed that svchost.exe was constantly using 25% of my CPU (displayed on taskmanager), and so I downloaded a program that monitors certain processes much more in detail, and I was surprised to find that svchost.exe had uploaded and downloaded nearly 2gig worth of data in just a few hours. (Please see attached screenshots).

Now... I then went and looked which processes are connected to the PID of the 4360 svchost.exe and saw that it was "upnphost", "SSDPSRV" and "FDResPub". Can anyone please explain to me why those 3 processes would want to upload/download 2gig worth of data in a few hours?

I'm on a monthly data cap of 50gig, so having 2gig consumed by seemingly nothing, is VERY substantial for me. So any help will certainly be appreciated.

    Thanks

Won't it adversely affect my PC if I disable them?
I mean... what the hell are they doing? What data are they uploading/downloading?
They must be fulfilling SOME kind of function for windows... shouldn't they?

But if you're 100% sure, then I don't give a crap... I'll disable them, since they are sucking my network dry atm

I am not 100% sure. But they look useless for you. Disable and see what happens. It will not brick your system.

OK I've disabled them. I'll monitor the performance of my PC over the next few days and see if it is still uploading/downloading so much.

If it is fine after a few days then I'll be sure to +rep you and mark as solved. Thanks

Well it's a few days later now and I haven't noticed any problems after disabling those 3 services. So I guess it's case closed. Thanks!
