How to set up a virtual network or offline network?

I use music production software that has apps that can be used for controllers on idevices such iphone and ipad.

These apps dont need the internet to work they just need to be connected to same network as the system. My system connects to my router via Ethernet and the devices obviously over wifi.

Normally they would just work over the network my my local area connection is enabled.. But here is the fun part... I keep my machine offline (Disable local area connection) 95% only turning it on for updates and quick downloads.

I need to keep it this way. So is there a way to create a second network or some type of virtual network that doesn't connect internet but just to router so the devices can talk to each other? There is mention of ad hoc but i dont have a wireless card in this system and thats not an option.

You can disable www from your main pc by setting the IP config to manual, then deleting the gateway address (or putting a 'wrong' number in). For manual DNS use either OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) or Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Prob a good idea to open a cmd and type ipconfig to see (and write down) your current settings. See pics



To get to IP settings - Control Panel, Network and Sharing, Change adapter settings, R-click Local Area Connection, TCP/IPv4 > Properties.
