Missing Network adapter icon in device manager

I recently purchased a computer from a private seller. The computer wont connect to the internet because there is no network adapter driver. I have tried finding it in Device Manager and the icon is not there. what do I do? I don't know a lot about computers but I will try to give as much information as needed.

If the driver isn't installed, it would show up under "Other devices". If it doesn't show up there, then there are two possibilities:

    1) If it's an add-on adapter (not built into the motherboard) it could be poorly connected, or the slot could be bad.
    2) The adapter is bad.

    Hi Jr,
Depends on how old the desktop is
They didnt come with WiFi adapters, just the Ethernet cable option.

In Device manager are there any "problem devices" shown.

Can you fill in your system specs we stand a better chance of sorting it then.

I just found the icon under hidden devices. The adapter that is under network adapter is RAS Async Adapter. I try to update driver software it and it says cannot update driver software. I also cant uninstall RAS Async Adapter.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't really know what RAS Async Adapter is, but it's not a network adapter. I've seen it systems with and without it, all with fully functional networking. You could Google it for more info, otherwise best not to mess with it.
