want to know what data is necessary to connect to wifi

This topic aims to get the specifics of what actual data is necessary to communicate with and log-on to a wireless access point given that all network devices are working.

The reason I need this information is because I got a rather nasty computer virus that after removing it left me without the ability to log-on to wifi networks. it always says 'limited access', not 'limited connectivity' watch those 2 very carefully.

I have a pretty good idea that something may be wrong in the windows 7 networking drivers (not the hardware drivers), but it may be something in the registry as well which is why I need to know how to 'build' a wireless connection from the ground up.

for example what are the base software and registry requirements?

what should the registry pertaining to networking of a clean machine look like?

what exactly happens during the entirety of establishing a connection to a wireless network? from the smallest data lookups to handling the login handshake/or the equivalent.

what is a nethook and how can I remove it?
