    Homegroup

    Hi.

I have a problem I cant seem to be able to work it out.

    I have 3 computers - 2 desktops and 1 laptop all on windows 7 .

    - Laptop creates a homegroup. Both desktops joined it. The desktops can share and access each other no problems.

The laptop cant see any computers in the homegroup (nothing available), neither under Network, only see itself.

On the other hand I see the 'media devices' of the 2 other desktops and can also see them in the 'Full Map' in 'Nework and Sharing Center' from the laptop.

    - I can ping both of them from the laptop using thier ips or computer names.
    - All computers under WORKGROUP.
    - The desktops can see the laptop computer in the 'Network' section (not homegroup) but unable to access it: Error: 0x80070035. Network path was not found.

    Any clue?

    Thanks.

Let me guess your two desktop are wired and your laptop is wireless. could be an IP issues. with your wireles putting out 192.168.11.1 and your wired maybe putting out 192.168.1.1 or something of that nature. If so get them all on the same subnet and IP range and you shouldn't have a problem. If the wired and wireless router are seperate use dd-wrt or tomato to turn it into a bridged repeater (basically a wireless switch) with DHCP passthrough.

Check under Advanced Sharing options to make sure everything is how you want it.

They are all on the same subnet.

Laptop is 10.0.1.33 , and the desktops are 35 and 37 at the end.

Also nothing special in the advanced sharing options, its just like the other 2 comps.

all default settings: Network discovery on etc.

Just changed: turn on password protected sharing to off on all computers.

    Thats it.

    Any other suggestions?

Btw I tried both using the laptop on the wireless and wired. Same results.

Unless all your computers are running Windows 7, you cannot share files using a Homegroup. You must instead have them all using the same WORKGROUP.

    Good luck.

Sounds like a firewall issue. What are your firewall settings?

Did you try running the Homegroup Troubleshooter (run as Administrator) from each computer. If the Troubleshooter can't fix it, it usually suggests leaving the Homegroup on each of the computers and starting over creating the Homegroup. Sometimes it takes a restart after running the Troubleshooter for the new settings to take affect. Perhaps re-create the Homegroup using one of the hard wired desktops.

Also, are all 3 computers using the final version of W7? There were several Homegroup issues in the beta and RC releases.

I assume you mean the network troubleshooter, right?

1: Like I said, all computers on Windows 7 .

2: Firewall is OFF, on all computers.

3; Tried creating a homegroup on one of the desktop comptuers, the laptop cant see that homegroup and only suggests to create one.

On the other hand, when the laptop creates the homegroup, the others can see it and join it.

I tried the homegroup and network troubleshooter before with restarts, no success.
