Workgroup password?
I'm trying to share some folders on a Win7 pc with a Linux pc, but I when I try to access the Win7 pc from the Linux (Ubuntu) pc, I am asked for a password, and I have no idea what this is.
I have one user account on the Win7 pc - the administrator (Guest account is off). I created a password for this user account (but I must have set auto login because I never have to use this password on the Win7 pc), but that password does not give me access from the Linux pc.
In the Linux pc, in file manager, I navigate to Browse Network > Windows Network > WORKGROUP > win7pc. When I click on win7pc, I am prompted to login. I use the username of the win7pc administrator and password, but that does not work.
I also tried going to Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings > Home or Work > Password protected sharing > turn off. Still cannot login from the Linux pc.
As a side note, in Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings > Home or Work > Password protected sharing - turning this on/off also turns on/off the Public network setting (i.e., Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings > Public > Password protected sharing. That's strange. Why have separate Home/Work and Public network profiles if changing a setting in one of the profiles also changes the corresponding setting in the other profile?
