WAN Port on Access Point - 1000M?

I will be building my own router Via PfSense but I will be needing to purchase an Access Point to distribute wireless connectivity throughout my home.

Since my network is 1Gbps (Hard wired via ethernet), do I really need a wireless access point with a 1Gbps ethernet port to take advantage of my high speed network via WiFi or does this really matter? I figure if Wireless N has a cap of 300Mbps, that's that. I cannot get more bandwith, right?

I have been looking at Access Points lately, most the them have the 1 x 10/100M WAN ports. Very few have the 1000M (Which I believe is the same as 1Gbps) Is that correct?
