My modem is NOT busy, but windows says it is!!!!!

    hi every one
When i dial up, i get some Error Message 633 message about COM port being used by other application or modem not configured properly.
In device manager the modem seems OK, and i dont know of any other device using a COM port. I've tried different drivers, swapping the modem around inside the case but no joy and i'm getting really annoyed now.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Are your com ports enabled in the BIOS, fewer and fewer modern day devices rely on them now, to the degree that a great many boards no longer even feature them - and sometimes even on boards that do have them they're disabled in the BIOS by default.

I'd also look at Windows Firewall settings to see everything there is hunky-dory.

Did you have the modem connected before you went to Windows7, when you ran the W7 Upgrade Advisor? Are you sure it's actually a supported device?

The majority of dial-up modems are either USB nowadays, or rely on occupying one of your systems PCI slots rather than attaching to a com port...
