I'm using the Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter and the specs of this adapter say that I should get speeds up to 54 Mbps. I'm only getting to 16 Mbps even though the speed in the connection status says 54. I have used it with 2 different wifi routers (Linksys and Asus),with 2 different IPS and with both the actuall speed will not go over 16 Mbps. If i connect using a cable to those routers I get speeds way over 54 Mbps.

I have the latest win7 x64 drivers from windows update.

Does anyone have any ideea if there is anything wrong with my card or this is there a way to speed it up ?

Hi and welcome

Your speed is determined by many factors. It will say it is a 54mb link in task manager as that is the max, your speed is determined by distince interference, hardware, etc. When wired you should get at least 100Mb.

Remember these are the max's your isp is not giving you anyway near that so it doesnt make a lot of difference.

My ISP can do a lot better than tha 16Mbps , that's the ideea . So if my ISP can give me more than 16 when wired than why not on wifi when using the same connection ?

I got the driver from the hp site and I managed to get it up to 22 Mbps so it seems it's a driver issue.Hope they do a better job next time they update the driver

Were you ever able to increase your wifi speed on your laptop?!

Hi there. I know your post is pretty old, but i ran across it while searching for resolution to my own issue. I'm having the same issue you had? with your wifi on your notebook. I only can get up to 20mb down. I was considering upgrading my wifi adaptor but wanted to respond to your post and see what you ended up doing first. Thanks for letting me know!
