I've seemed to have lost my network.
I've seemed to have lost my network.
First I have three computers on my network.
Computer A - my main one - a Windows 7 desktop
Computer B - a Windows XP desktop
Computer C - a Windows 7 laptop
On Computer A, I have my printer connected and shared but that's it. On Computer B, I only have one folder shared and used the printer through Computer A. On Computer C I have nothing shared but use to access my printer through A.
I've had this setup for almost 4 years and all of a sudden it's like my entire network vanished. My Internet still works. I have a cable connection and both desktops are wired into my router. The laptop connects wireless.
On Computer A I had the shared folder from Computer B mapped as drive (Z:). Then about 3 days ago I tried to access Z: and haven't been able to. When I clicked on the Z: drive I would get the following error message:
Network Error
Windows cannot access \\MYROOMXP (name on computer B)
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
The Diagnose button did absolutely nothing. It just said something about the Diagnose Service not starting but in the services in Control Panel it's set to Automatic start.
So I went to Computer B and I didn't try to access Computer A because I never could do that anyway. But I did try to print a file but it wouldn't go through.
I checked online and tried what suggestions where available including making sure all the services where enabled. Some where not but this never made a difference before so why should it now.
I tried the following:
deleted the Z: drive share. Removed the sharing options from the printer and from folder on B.
Even reinstalled network adapters.
Disabled Firewall.
Made sure all adapter components where installed
Disabled simple file sharing on both computers.
Deleted the saved Windows Credentials.
I deleted the printer drivers from Computer B and tried to reinstall them but now it can't see my printer at all.
I searched for any Microsoft 6to4 adapters to remove but found none as suggested by one post.
I can successfully ping each computer. From A to B and B to A and so on.
Deleted the following keys; HardwareID and Store from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSLicening, as according to one post.
Disabled the Firewall through services and flushed the DNS server.
One post suggested to go to the adapter properties and uncheck the Internet Protocal Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). When I did that the first time for a brief moment I could see but not access all my networked computers on my Computer A. When I did this it I got a pop up box asking if I wanted to Enable Network discovery and I said yes and then it asked did I want to enable printer and file sharing on a public network.. I wish I'd took some screen shots...but anyway it didn't make any difference. I restarted and it was all gone again.
So I tried a second time as I'm writing this. Before On Computer A for the Network I was at least seeing Computer A and the printer share and now it's completely gone. Nothing showing up on my other computers either. Does anybody have a clue what's going on here because I sure don't?
One final note, I don't know if it's related or important but when I right click on a folder on Computer A my main Win7 one, in the properties, I have no sharing tab on any folders.
