Connect to FTP fails

A shortcut to an FTP site can be easily configured via MAP NETWORK DRIVE, then clicking on "connect to a WEB site that you can use to store your documents and pictures."

That worked fine for years, then began to intermittently fail with an error that the FTP server terminated the connection or, when the FTP directory did appear any file clicked returned error 12111.

I discovered another way to map the shortcut back then via a right-click on NETWORK. That succeeded in reliably launching the FTP folder, but all HTML pages there reference temp folders instead of ftp://ftp.servername.com/username/test.html, for example. Images on the page are in the same folder as the HTML file.

So in W7, these FTP html files can't find their images. But they come up just fine in Win 10 when accessed in the very same manner from the same server. If the true path is substituted, as with the link above, the server requests a login, although I am already logged in. That done, the images appear as they should in the HTML page.

What needs to be tweaked to get W7 to point to the image files in HTML pages on the FTP server, instead of incorrectly referencing a temp folder?
