suddenly no internet

Hello,

About a month ago, my Lenovo ThinkPad suddenly would not connect to the internet. Since then, I've been trying to resolve the issue, and have visited several threads and many pages, and have tried many things.

The Windows troubleshooting message I get tells me I need to push the F key or switch to enable wifi. Well, my F key doesn't have a light on it, so I can't tell when it's on or off - when there's no internet -and I've tried pushing the F key many times during troubleshooting, to no avail. Can anybody resolve it?

There should be an function key with some kind of wifi symbol on it. You will need to hit that key with the FN key at the same time to enable wifi. Look at the keys carefully. Without an more specifics on your model I can only post a thread I found for 2 models as an example. Yours could be different. Is there a wifi switch on Thinkpad E420 or E520 Edge? - Lenovo Community You might also try your computer's documentation.

Yes, the F9 key, which I have pressed repeatedly - and there's no light to indicate whether it's off or on. This may be related to the caps lock key not displaying an onscreen indicator, either. I have reviewed the user manual and find nothing that is helpful. The link you provided indicates that a wireless control UI appears "under Windows 7". Where exactly IS "under Windows 7"? How do I view this UI?

From Lenovo site docs

Operating system
  • Windows® 8 Professional (64-bit)
Notes:
  • Previous versions of these operating systems are not supported.
  • Operating systems other than those preinstalled on the systems may not provide full-feature functionality
But does not really help with your probs.
Did you also try F9 + ctrl or alt

note on my Acer (really strange set up) i can also switch it on/off using the actual wireless symbol thats actually above the keyboard!!!
you could also try rolling back the driver.

Thanks to ideas generated by reading your posts, I've identified and resolved the problem - which required installation of Hot Keys Features Integration from the Lenovo site (here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (64-bit), 8 (64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Laptop - Lenovo Support). Once I got it installed, rebooted, and hit the F9 key, the UI came right up and I was able to enable wifi. How it got turned off in the first place remains a mystery.

Thanks for your help.
