My USB/External drive causes my wireless connector to disable?

Well after finding out that the culprit of my crashes was my USB drive i managed to remove all
recent software on it however the problem of losing my wifi resumes. I don't use wires and ports
for my internet,it's all wireless. After a certain amount of time passes with the USB plugged in my
Wifi disables on it's own and i can't re-enable it without rebooting the laptop. For now i've taken
the decision to just move my main file back onto my main drive (like i have a choice lol) which
has taken it's toll on the space i have. I don't have alot of space to begin with and i work alot
with 3D stuff. I don't even have 300gbs. It makes me very upset that my USB would do this to
me. What should i do because i can't keep buying USB every time it acts this way.
