HELP Windows 7 Internet Map "Unknown" Device - Resolution

Problem - The Windows 7 Internet Map (Control Panel > Network & Internet > Network & Sharing Centre > See Full Map) is showing an "Unknown" device between my computer and my main router.

Here is something that was found on the Windows site and which may work for you.

PLEASE NOTE : It's important to copy this information down either by hand or by Copying and then Pasting the information into a Word Document which you can save on your Desktop for ease of use.

Step 1
In Windows 7, select Start, type cmd in the Searchbox. Hover the mouse arrow over the "cmd" icon and Right Click on the mouse. A drop down list will appear. Select Run as administrator, and then select Yes.

A black box will appear with a cursor flashing on and off. This is the Command Prompt. All you need to do for Step 1 is to type in the following commands in the order listed :

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Step 2
You will then be asked to Restart your Computer. It is very important that you copy out by hand the following instructions and commands because you will not be able to connect up to the internet to see them again until you've followed through the complete process. Only once you've gone through the following should the internet connection be fine :

In Windows 7, select Start, type cmd in the Search box. Hover the mouse arrow over the cmd and Right Click on the mouse. A drop down list will appear. Select Run as administrator, and then select Yes.

The black box will appear again with a cursor flashing on and off. This is the command prompt. All you need to do is to complete the process is to type in the following commands in the order listed :

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Hope that works
