I'm wondering if there is a Local Area Connection available. Go to Device Manager and see if there is a problem with your Network Adapter (yellow exclamation point). If that's the case, update/install the driver. You can right-click the network controller device, select Properties > Advanced button near the bottom > update driver.

Try that and let us know what happens. Good luck!

Ok. Are you on a DSL service, or cable? If cable, turn off the laptop, plug the ethernet cable to your laptop and modem (or router). Reboot the laptop, then open the Network & Sharing Center, and click Connect to a Network. If we are lucky, this is all you need. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

Great news! As for cable, I highly recommend Monoprice.com. I've been buying from them for a long time.
