Windows 7: 'Always available offline' is not there

'Always available offline' is not there

Edit: Never mind - looks like the issue is caused by a stupid limitation in my WD NAS box - other people have the exact same issue with this particular model. What a load of rubbish and a waste of money! I'll buy a Synology when the WD dies (kicks the WD hopefully).

Before I tear my hair out and do another reinstall, is there anything else I can try here? This is my issue:

I have a mapped drive to my NAS box, and I want to make a few folders always available offline with Sync Center. I know all about how to do that. Except... when I right-click on the folder, there is no option to do so. It's just not there.

I recently installed this (new PC) and have not set up any syncs on it previously. I did have to change the “Network security: LAN Manager authentication level” policy to “Send LM & NTLM – user NTLMv2 session security if negotiated” and manually store the NAS credentials in Windows Credential Manager in order to get the NAS' password remembered after a restart.

From what I've read, storing the credentials manually that way gives them 'Enterprise' level persistence, and that is what then prevents Sync Center from allowing offline files on the share.

So, I deleted the credentials. Still no "Always Available..." option.

I reset the offline files cache by entering the registry key, as suggested all over the place for this issue. No change.

I've disabled and re-enabled offline files. Still nothing.

I've removed and reattached the mapped drive, mapped it by name and IP address, and a load of other variations on the theme. Still no 'Always available...' option on the menu.

Does anyone have anything else I can try?
