If i am having more devices, which should i select domain or workgroup

The terminology confusion always there . Instead of simple terms, the term workgroup or domain does not convey clear meaning. If i am having a pc, laptop, mobile, pc with wired and others using wifi, which should i select workgroup or domain. If i give a domain name, without knowing the exact meaning, i get error message, that it could not accept and reject it.
When i input nslookup Google, i get answers but my server is shown as unknown.
When i input ipconfig /all, Connection specific dns is shown as and the description is shown as my ethernet card name ethernet.
here what is shown as Are those not confusing? If i change to google dns, the server shows as correct goggle dns server. Will any one explain
