Cannot Connect to Wireless Network After Changing Security Settings

I have a situation where I have to disable my home wireless network when connecting to my office's network...cable connection only. Used to be that I could enable my wireless network and both my PC and laptop would connect automatically. After changing the security protocol from WEP to WPA2-PSK on my router (TrendNet TEW-632BRP) my laptop will not connect to the network automatically. I have to turn the power off of the router for 10 seconds and then power up in order to connect. Funny, but I just bought one of those cheapie 300Mbps Mini Wireless USB Wi-Fi Adapters for my home built PC and it connects instantaneously after I've enabled the wireless network. Any ideas on why the laptop won't connect automatically?

How old is the laptop and wireless card. A lot of old ones don't understand modern encryption and only work correct on wep

You probably hit the nail on the head. It's an Asus UL30A. Bought it in 2010.
